I Hear NY3D, is a project for capturing and reproducing 3D soundfields in New York City using first order Ambisonic recordings of various locations in Manhattan. This project explores the aesthetic and informational potentials possible through this data. The collected data allows for the creation of high quality, fully immersive auditory soundscapes that can be played back on any periphonic speaker array configuration through real time matrixing.
The data from this project has also been augmented with real-time crowd-sourced data streams, such as Twitter and and Yelp!.
I Hear NY3D is a project that was undertaken by NYU MARL’s Immersive Audio Interest Group between 2012-14.
